A Visit to OKX in Hong Kong - No Office Found

As one of the global financial centers, Hong Kong attracts a great deal of capital for cryptocurrency investment from the world, playing a significant role in bridging the gap between Chinese Mainland and the world in cryptocurrency investment. Meanwhile, with developed economy and an excellent environment for innovation, Hong Kong has released a series of policies to support the development of the related sectors including cryptocurrency and blockchain. Therefore, plenty of cryptocurrency companies/projects are becoming the popular choice for more investors, among whom the majority buy cryptocurrencies online through crypto exchanges. In order to help investors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the local exchanges in Hong Kong, WikiBit survey team is determined to pay on-site visits to local companies.
On-site visit
In this issue, the survey team went to Hong Kong, China to visit cryptocurrency exchange OKX as planned according to its purported regulatory address that OKX Hong Kong FinTech Company Limited, 6/F, Sino Plaza, 255-257 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
The investigators conducted an on-site survey of the office premises of the exchange OKX based on the above information. The target address was 6/F, Sino Plaza, 255-257 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. The target area is located in Causeway Bays central business district. This area features dense pedestrian traffic and is surrounded by dining establishments, retail shops, residential buildings, and educational institutions, making it a typical bustling commercial location. The target building, Sino Plaza, appears as a modern commercial tower with distinctive architecture.
Subsequently, the inspection team entered the building. Upon entry, they first examined the lobby directory (floor directory board). According to records, the 6th floor tenant listed on the directory was “Cignal Technology Company Limited,” with no information related to “OKX” displayed.
To obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the situation, the team proceeded to the 6th floor for further investigation. Upon arrival, they observed no OKX signage in the public areas of the floor, only markings indicating “Cignal Technology Company Limited.” When further examining the target office, they noticed the entrance logo displayed “OKG,” which showed significant discrepancy with the target company name “OKX.” Additionally, while the public areas of the floor were accessible, entry to the office interior was prohibited, making observation of the internal environment impossible.
Through the on-site investigation, it is confirmed that the exchange does not have a physical presence at the location.
Conclusion
The survey team went to Hong Kong to visit cryptocurrency exchange OKX as planned but did not find the company at the aforementioned regulatory address. Accordingly, investors should be cautious about choosing the exchange.
